A Big Thank You!! 05/05/2011
What an amazing start to the golfing season. The weather has been fantastic and the number of new customers to The Golf Centre tells us we are doing something right. At times, there has been some long queues waiting to go of the first but this hasn't detered anyone and gives some a good excuse to sit in the sun and enjoy a beer or 2. We are delighted that more and more people are taking up the game of golf and are choosing Ashton to develop their skills. It really has been a fabulous few weeks and I with all the bank holidays, Martin and I had to learn to drive the tractors to help get the fairways cut. We have seen a big increase in the number of golf society holding their events at Ashton and returning week on week. A special thanks to Pipescan, a local drainage business based in Pressall who ran a golf day for friends and colleagues to celebrate the Royal Wedding, sort of!. It was for all those men who wanted to avoid the Wedding!! We had a fabulous day and even better prizes (wedding day plates!! LOL) The Golf Centre Veterans have also enjoyed a successful start to their season winning their last 2 matches, firstly against Poulton Le Fylde Golf Club and then against Crook Golf Club. Feed back from all golf events has been tremendous and I never would have believed that we could seat 40 in the upstairs cafe..but we did!! Local Lancaster businesses that would like to hold a Golf Day are welcome to do so, maybe treat the staff to a day out or bring some customers to the friendliest most affordable golf course in the area. 1 Comment Where did January go? 01/02/2011
Is it me or does everything seem to be going faster?? The days are drawing out faster than I remember from last year, technology is moving so fast that if we sleep we have missed a million apps, tweets, status updates. I cant keep up with the twitter conversations, it's like arriving at a party when everyone is leaving!! On the subject of technology, on 2 occasions this week end, I asked customers if they needed a score card for their round of golf. "No Thanks" was the reply, "we've got the app for our iphone" How amazing is that??. You can record all your scores and those of your playing partners at hundreds of golf courses across the world, Ashton included!! I saw it in action and ...A-mazing. I think the app costs about £24, so much cheaper than a sky caddy. We wont need to have paper score cards soon!! Is this the changing face of golf. Our lives are fastest, therefore everything we do must be faster...or not. In my opinion, golf is still a sport where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings. Enjoy the wildlife and take some well earned R&R from the daily rush. It's easy nowadays to fit in a quick 9 holes and not be away all day. AND..we allow mobiles on the course, you can tweet to your hearts content!!! LOL Twitter 15/01/2011
Since signing up with our twitter account we have seen an increase in our followers. Not as much as I would have liked but I think that is my fault, for not putting more time into it. This year one of my resolutions is to connect with more customers and build lasting relationships with them. Whether you are new to golf and are looking for somewhere to start in a relaxed atmosphere, or whether you are great at golf, we offer something for everyone. we are really happy with the standard and quality of our course and would love you all to come down and give it a go. If you are using social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn Four Square or Yelp, connect with us. We want to find out what you want from golf and what you think we should be doing. I was following a great conversation between Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood the other day and I had to laugh...Twitter definitely gives you an insight to the human face of the golf pro and all in real time. It was fab!! If you love twitter, lets us know. Live premiership football!! 27/11/2010
We now have a full Golf and premiership TV package for all our customers to enjoy. Since Thursday we have enjoyed the Race to Dubai on our new satellite system and today we showed the Aston Villa V Arsenal match. Now showing Manchester City V Stoke (Up the blues) I think there are a few customers thinking of taking up permanent residence in the cafe. Also we have had a number of calls today about the course and asking whether we are open. Yes, we are open and the course is very playable. although hard in places. We have been lucky so far that the snow has not hit Ashton, even though they got some in Lancaster. Quite amazing. Call us if you and some friends want to play golf, watch the football, and have a bite to eat. We are open from 08.30 till dusk Autumn Update 06/11/2010
Well, now the nights are really drawing in and the Autumn weather has started, we have noticed a diminishing number of golfers on the course. Well done to the hardy ones!!! Let's hope that the winter doesn't bring golf destroying weather again!! We have had a huge increase in the yearly contracts this year, which is great. I think it's to do with the new shiney bag tags we are giving out, but Martin thinks it is because the course is looking and playing so fantastic. I have to admit, he is probably right. The increase in members will only add to the competitions we can organise, especially for the over 55's. These are due to start pretty soon, so anyone interested can put their name down in the locker room and join in the fun. No handicap required and you dont need to be a yearly contract holder. It is lovely to hear all the comments that the course has never looked so good, and we have to agree that it is getting better and better. The new fourth tee should make a difference next season. You may have noticed that we have changed the times of the driving range this winter. We made the hard desision to close it in the evening. I know this will upset some but it just wasn't cost effective, so sorry to those of you who did use it last winter. (you'll just have to sneak out of work early!! (LOL). We are going to be linking to a website, where you will be able to buy any golf equipment. It is a company that we have used before and is a trusted golf trader. Click on the link from our homepage and it will take you direct to Planet Golf for discounted golf equipment. Happy Autumn Golfing and the l One of our green keepers assured me in July that August was to be the hottest on record....we are now in the middle, and nothing so far!! But glad to see the weather still isn't putting you all off. Thanks to Alex Hall, for his comments about the course. I will pass on your kind remarks to the greens staff, who have managed in all weathers this past few weeks. Just wanted to let everyone know that we have placed an advert in the new Lancaster and Morecambe mag "Your Local List" If you bring the ad with you, you will receive a discount on your green fee!! Just wanted to mention too, that the deer is back and was seen racing down the ninth fairway last Thursday. Frightened the 3 ball on the green!! So panick over. Martin and I seem to have done some mileage these past few weeks. Ryan is playing in the Lancashire U14 boys squad, and we are loving watching him. The team are top of the league and they are a great bunch of lads and deserve their position for the hard work they put in. The Lancashire officials put so much time in to make this happen and we would like to thank them all. The weather hasn't been too kind to them either, but it doesn't seem to bother the boys. 3 or 4 of the lads started their golf at Ashton Golf Centre, which makes us very proud. Sunny July 31/07/2010
Well, the months are flying by and despite the rain, our dedicated golfers still keep playing the course. So thank you all for that. Have to ask the question. Why is it that, no sooner do united utilities, introduce a hosepipe ban, the heavens open and it doesn't stop raining?? Still, glad to see that the great british weather isn't putting off our golfers. It has been hard for the greens staff, these last few weeks. With the warm temperatures and the rain, the grass is growing like mad. Everyone keeps telling me that August will see record breaking temperatures. Lets hope it will be in the North West so we can fill the patio with golfers, enjoying a cool drink after their round of golf. Just a quick note about the Lancashire County Junior Golf Teams, that have recently played against Durham and Yorkshire, both massively close matches with both games finishing a draw. Good luck to the boys for their next Junior game aginst Cheshire. If anyone has any news that they want us to write about, give us a shout at the golf centre and we will do our best to get it out there. Stunning Golf Course 21/04/2010
Ashton Golf Centre is enjoying a great start to the new golf season. Since The Masters 2010 we have seen a steady increase in visitors to the Golf Centre, with many more golf group bookings from all over Lancashire. The hard work over the winter is definitely paying off now and to see the course in such great condition is fantastic. We have ordered some of the fab photos that were taken by Dove Photography at last Friday's Memorial Golf Day. We will be posting the photos in the club house when they arrive, but you can get a sneak preview on the Dove Photography website . It was nice to hear the great comments about the course especially from Lancaster Golf Club members!! We would like to remind you that The Cafe is open to everyone using The Centre, with many special offers. Summer Tees 25/03/2010
We are pleased to announce that we have been able to go back on the summer tees earlier than expected. Mainly due to the good weather, but also due to the hard work of the green keepers. The course is looking amazing and the customers are showing their appreciation by turning up in droves. The whole place is getting busier which is lovely to see after the hard work. Group bookings have increased from last year, due to our new web marketing strategy and the competitive tailor made packages on offer. A couple of groups have re-booked, which speaks volumes.... Golf Lessons At Ashton Golf Centre Lancaster 05/03/2010
Just added a new picture to the website...our teaching pro Stuart Booth. Stuart has been busy this week contacting all the local school in Lancaster, offering them the opportunity to take up golf. Junior golf is on the increase all over the country, especially with golf becoming part of the Olympic Games in 2014. For the UK to grow new talent, we need to invest in our Juniors and get them out on the golf course. Many golfing parents believe that they can teach their children golf themselves and this is great, but we also recommend that to get them started properly they take some lessons from a qualified professional. Stuart offers group lessons for Juniors and it is a great starting point for boys and girls who show an interest in the golf game. The Junior Golf Academy in Lancaster is very popular. It is also amazingly reasonable at £22.50 for 5 one hour sessions. The children will learn the golf stance, the golf grip and the golf swing in a fun and friendly environment. They will also get qualified advise on equipment and golf etiquette, as well as making new friends and learning new lifelong skills and all this in the outdoors. What could be better? Stuart also offers adult lessons, either on a one 2 one basis or in a group. Call Stuart for golf lessons at Lancaster's pay and play golf course, Ashton Golf Centre. 07884135784 The Golf Course is looking lovely this time of year, with the spring sunshine making evrything fresher and brighter and our family of deer are regularly showing their faces on the fairway. We are open to everyone and only a 5 minute drive from Lancaster. Come along and see for yourself.... | AuthorsMartin and Helen Lake will be writing pieces on this blog, hopefully weekly! We have owned Ashton Golf centre since October 2008 and have enjoyed a rewarding first year in business.
